How to Have a Fun, Family Friendly New Year’s Eve

Simple hangover-free fun for everyone

There was a time when New Year’s Eve meant getting dressed up and going out for a super late night of festive fun. At our house we call this “before kids”. Suddenly, pulling all nighters isn’t quite as much fun as it used to be. Sitters are an option, but by the time you factor the cost of going out AND a sitter’s holiday hours fee, your night is shaping up to be quite unaffordable. It’s time to consider more options!

Take a Family Selfie

What better way to commemorate an event than to take a family selfie?! Grab your kiddos, selfie stick (or set a timer and sit your phone/camera on the mantle like this old school chick) and smile pretty! If you’re like me, you’re most often behind the camera, so this is a great opportunity to get in on the action! It doesn’t have to be perfect, the best part is that it’s REAL! Write Your Reflections/Resolutions

We all know it’s tradition to make New Year’s Resolutions, but it’s also a great time to reflect on the year you’re leaving behind. Use this printable sheet to keep a record of your past and future. File it away and make a tradition of looking them over at the end of each year.

New Year’s Around The World

If you have younger kids that you know aren’t going to make it until midnight, stream countdowns from other countries. It will be a new year overseas hours before the ball drops in Times Square. To make it even more fun, prep some foreign fare to correspond with the celebrations. Grab some ideas here.

Make it a sleepover

Invite a family over who you and your kids mutually enjoy. Have the adults stay. Eat some yummy finger foods, order some party favors (affiliate) and have a ball watching the ball drop! The kids will entertain each other and you’ll get some grown up time in. Win-win. Whip up a breakfast casserole beforehand for the next morning.

A family night in sounds like music to my ears! No matter how you choose to spend your New Year’s Eve, please be safe and responsible! We want you around for years to come! Happy New Year!
